No matter which way you choose to reach the top, the 5506’ Brewery is one of the best breweries in North Carolina and is there waiting for your arrival. If you prefer to challenge yourself with a hike to the summit, you can hike along the disc golf trails that lead to the summit and play this exciting game that is likened to a mix of Frisbee and golf. Cost: A return trip on the chairlift costs $15.00īeech Mountain Resort is mostly known for being the ski resort in the Eastern United States with the highest elevation, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to do there in any season! Outside of ski season, you can take a ride on the chair lift to the summit of the mountain where you’ll enjoy spectacular views.Hours: Friday- Sunday: 10:00 am-6:00 pm, Monday – Thursday: Closed.Address: 1007 Beech Mountain Pkwy, Beech Mountain (GPS).If the guy in front of you took more than 3 minutes you get another free ride to make up for the one you just got hosed on.Photo courtesy of Beech Mountain Resort / Things To Do In Banner Elk If you take more than 3 minutes, you can moved to the beginner track. Lets say its 2 minutes (it's not that long). They know how long it takes to come down the track. You have to temper maximum rider efficiency/safety/speed altogether and I guess it's kinda hard.īuild a second track for the more reserved folks. This was only an issue for me on one of my 3 rides (getting stuck behind a slow-poke). And there's nowhere to go when that happens. At one point while waiting in line there were *zero* sleds on the track waiting to be released up the ramp because one dude had gone so slow he tied up the track for like 3X the normal time. I can totally understand if you get a toddler on the ride and he loses his mind, you're not going all out. A 45 minute wait is a bit excessive.Ģ) As stated by others, if you get a slow guy ahead of you, it gums up the works. So either they don't really adhere to reservation system or they had some issue early in the day to cause them to get backed up, because we reserved same day and as of 10 AM, every slot in the day had availability, so that tells me the reservations are merely suggestions. We got in line, and I think we were on sleds at 1:05 PM. Told not to show up early, wouldn't be allowed in, only so many people.blah blah.arrived at 12:20 to check in (yep - we ignored the don't be early warning, but only by 10 minutes and I figured that was close enough to window). They do have some opporunities for improvement.ġ) We had reservation for 12:30. Wife and I did the three ride bundle (~$35 or so, kinda steep, but it's vacation). I figured it'd be kinda lame and throttled and ho-hum. You get going rather quickly on the rails and there's just enough doubt in your mind that you might actually fly off the tracks, even though I'm pretty sure that's practically impossible. Lemme start by saying this was better than I thought it would be. Exit was back through the small gift shop where people are gathered to buy tickets. They spray down the cars between people, but not sure how well they wipe down all the high-touch surfaces. Most people were wearing masks correctly, but a few were not wearing one at all or were not covering nose and mouth. Most people staggered so you weren't standing right next to each other, but not always. But the line winds back and forth, so you are still standing next to other people. The website does tell you that you WILL have to wait in line, so I was prepared for that. Despite having a reserved time slot, you still have to go inside the gift shop to pay and wait in line with a lot of other people. They are trying, but falling a little short. I agree with another reviewer that they need to work on their COVID response. Which makes waiting in line more worth it, but is also probably why the line takes so long. It is smaller and a shorter ride than I expected, but still really fun. I had seen videos of alpine coasters in Europe, and this is located near ski lifts, so I guess I was expecting it to be higher and longer. Try this out! You won’t be disappointed!! The young lady at the initial check in was so kind! We had the opportunity to meet and talk with the owner: he is a Veteran, an example of the American Dream realized, and very very nice. This is a new attraction and will have the usual glitches associated with an initial opening. We went with two 13 year olds around 10:15 on a Monday and walked right up and immediately got on. Take your own hand sanitizer as there are steps to the top and many will touch the handrails which is to be expected. Entrances in the gift shop were staggered to control numbers. Even though the ride is outside all staff are wearing masks. The price is very reasonable for an attraction in a tourist area. It’s not a reservation but a way to sign up for a particular time to control crowds. Registration is required every day now! This is a new change and another COVID precaution.
